Access Denied when you try to get to User Profiles and Properties

After you create a new SSP, you might find you get an “Access Denied” page when you click on User Profiles and Properties in the User Profiles and My Sites section of the SSP admin page, although you can access other parts of the SSP OK.

Adding your account into the Farm Administrators group doesn’t help. ¬†Neither does giving your account full control over the SSP site itself. ¬† But you might want to do both of those anyway if you’re an admin.

To fix this particular problem you need to go to Personalization services permissions and go the Manage Permissions: Shared Service Rights screen, give yourself Manage User Profiles permission (plus anything else you might find useful, like Manage Analytics etc.).   That will let you into the screens for managing profile import.
